”Neuro- and retina degeneration sparks both adaptive and maladaptive biology. Our aim is to guide cellular and network homeostasis toward survival.”
Leinonen Retina Laboratory
Hypothesis-driven, rigorously controlled, and statistically powered research in visual neuroscience and pharmacology.
Our lab investigates two central themes: retinal homeostatic plasticity and drug-repurposing strategies for treating retinal degeneration. The retina provides an exceptional model for studying neural plasticity, pharmacology, and drug discovery.

Ocular Diseases Database
The open access Ocular Diseases Database (ODDB) integrates molecular, genetic, and pharmacological data across more than 170 ocular diseases. By linking genes, variants, and drugs within anatomically and genetically informed ontologies, ODDB supports mechanistic insight, target discovery, and drug repurposing in vision research.

Organizing ocular disease biology to accelerate discovery and therapy.
